A heat pump installation is a whole-system job, not an appliance swap. Every installation covers the following.
- A room by room heat loss survey of the property, carried out in person
- A certified system design produced through our accredited installation partner
- The Home Energy Scotland grant application handled on your behalf
- The outdoor unit, indoor unit and all associated pipework and electrical work
- A correctly sized hot water cylinder, since most existing cylinders are not suitable
- Radiator assessment, with any that are undersized for a lower flow temperature identified and replaced
- Controls and weather compensation set up for how a heat pump actually runs
- Commissioning, balancing and a handover explaining how to run the system economically
Removal and disposal of the old boiler, and of the oil tank where one is being decommissioned, is included.
Why the survey matters more than the equipment
Most disappointing heat pump installations are not caused by bad equipment. They are caused by a system sized from a rule of thumb, fitted to radiators that were specified for a gas boiler, feeding a cylinder that was never designed for a heat pump. The unit then has to run at a high flow temperature to compensate, which is precisely where it is least efficient.
Doing it properly means calculating heat loss room by room, checking that each radiator can deliver its share at a lower flow temperature, and sizing the cylinder for the coil area a heat pump needs. That is slower at the survey stage and it is the single biggest determinant of what the system costs to run afterwards.
It is also why we would rather tell you a heat pump is not the right answer for your property than install one that will disappoint you. Where insulation is poor or the radiator circuit is not up to it, we will say so and set out what would need to change first.
Heat pump questions, answered
Am I eligible for the £7,500 Home Energy Scotland grant?+
Most owner-occupied and private rented homes in Scotland qualify if they hold a valid EPC with no outstanding insulation recommendations. We confirm eligibility during your survey and handle the application with our accredited installation partner.
Will a heat pump keep my house warm in a Scottish winter?+
Yes, provided the system is designed for the property. Air source heat pumps work well below freezing, and the design work at survey is what determines whether the house stays comfortable on the coldest days.
Do I need to replace my radiators?+
Sometimes, but rarely all of them. A heat pump runs at a lower flow temperature, so we check whether each radiator can deliver enough heat at that temperature and replace only those that cannot.
Do I need a new hot water cylinder?+
Usually yes. Heat pumps need a cylinder with a much larger coil area than a boiler cylinder has, so a suitable cylinder is included in the installation.
How long does an installation take?+
Most installations take between three and five working days, depending on how much radiator and cylinder work is involved. We agree the schedule with you before starting.
Is a heat pump noisy?+
Modern units are quiet, and the outdoor unit is generally comparable to a fridge at conversational distance. Siting it sensibly at survey matters more than the specification on paper.
Who carries out your heat pump installations?+
We are Gas Safe and OFTEC registered. Heat pump installations and grant applications are completed through an accredited installation partner, which is what makes the work eligible for the Home Energy Scotland grant.
Can I convert from an oil boiler?+
